I Found Our New Role Model :: Glenda Watson Hyatt
You are going to love this woman - and her podcasts. Meet Glenda Watson Hyatt of JustWrite blog and her upcoming book, I’ll Do It Myself. The subtitle is ” A Collection of Memories from a Woman Living with Cerebral Palsy.”
I first found Glenda while doing research on other blogs discussing disability issues. To find that Glenda is also podcasting, well - that was just too sweet to pass up. Visit her latest post - Fresh from the Podcasting Expo - where Glenda addressed the Women’s Podcasting Expo.
Glenda writes:
First, and foremost, I am writing this book for youth and young adults with cerebral palsy to motivate, to inspire and to share how I have navigated life. Sometimes simply reading how someone else handled a particular situation gives the reader the encouragement and ideas for handling a similar situation.
Secondly, I am also writing this for parents, who, after having their bundle of joy gently placed in their awaiting arms, are given the devastating news their baby has cerebral palsy. In an instant, their hopes and dreams for their child, as well as for their family, are smashed.
I am hoping this book will offer a glimmer of hope for these parents, as well as for the siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles. I want to show that life can still be meaningful, despite cerebral palsy.
Her message is personal and compelling. Her philosophy fits so well with our stated mission and goal of providing “exceptional services to ensure that all people with disabilities have equal opportunity to live, learn, work and play.”
I love Glenda’s outlook and attitude. She writes about returning to the Podcast Expo next year and encouraging her friends to podcast. “I’ll be back and, hopefully, next time some friends will join me. After all, if this non-verbal red-head can podcast, they can too!” Glenda, you’re fantastic!
Update: FYI, Glenda’s other podcasts (book updates) are available here.
I’ve included a brief snippet from Glenda’s most recent podcast. Just enough to tease you into visiting her site. Go check it out, please. The audio file snippet below is a .8mb download and runs :55.
