Internship at Camp ASCCA :: Public Relations, Marcom, Multimedia
Gain valuable experience in public relations, new media/social media and multimedia at Easter Seals Camp ASCCA, the world’s largest facility of its kind.
Danielle and Katie will be moving on in a few weeks. Their internships will be coming to a close. So, we need to find our next contestant in the ASCCA internship experience.
Our first intern, in our new social media program, was Erin Caldwell. She is now with Edelman Worldwide Public Relations in Washington, D.C. Erin acquired that job, in part, because of her extensive experience in social media - particularly here at ASCCA and at Auburn University. Can you do the same thing? Yep.
Need more convincing? Listen to Jeremy Pepper, Weber Shandwick / San Francisco. He writes:
Public relations continues to evolve, and the best way to prepare for the changing PR is to have a balanced internship. Camp ASCCA is balanced in that it is traditional PR with media outreach, combined with blogging and podcasting - skill sets that are valuable to PR firms.
Plus, philanthropic internships always look good.
So, you see that working at a camp - a nonprofit - does not limit you, at all. In fact, with this internship and our social media activities, it will help prepare you for the new aspects of PR that firms are looking for every day. That’s no joke, either. You can set yourself apart in a very positive way with this experience.
Download the ASCCA Internship information sheet (PDF and Word versions).
Also, be sure you search throughout the ASCCA Journal and the rest of our site to develop an understanding of what we do at Camp ASCCA. This journal offers a terrific example of the types of writing, video, audio and photographic work you’ll be doing. Look at the ASCCA Project Renew page for examples of layout and design work you’ll be doing, too. Download the PDF catalog.
This can be a fun and rewarding experience for you. The public relations and marketing communications experience you will gain is real and valuable in pursuing your career after college.
Drop us an email and attach your resume. We’ll give you a call and set up an interview. Easy as that.
Thanks for considering spending your internship with Easter Seals Camp ASCCA. I even made a little podcast just for you. Check that out, too.

Oh — I like the podcast for this post! Great way to approach sharing information about the internship.
Yep, I interned at Camp ASCCA in the spring of 2006, and it was a truly rewarding experience on so many levels. The people you get to work with are wonderful, the location is great, plus you get to live at Camp and it’s a paid internship — I could list so many more benefits, but Robert does a good job with that in the podcast.
I do want to share a little tip, though. Camp ASCCA is using cutting edge tools in its PR program. Wouldn’t you imagine graduating with extensive real-world experience with this kind of technology would be attractive to employers? EXTREMELY valuable. The PR industry is slowly starting to adjust and is raising its standards for hires fresh out of college. Employers expect you to be familiar with these new tools. What you would be doing at Camp ASCCA … would put you about 10 steps ahead of what the employers are even expecting. Talk about impressive.

Thanks, Erin. Everyone at camp says Hi!, too.
Interesting thing, and this wasn’t planned, I promise. The national Easter Seals office was visiting camp today. They are going to hold a conference at ASCCA, it turns out. I learned today that they are going to be doing something interesting. Guess what (among other things) they are going to highlight at the conference?
Social media and what we are doing online. They want to encourage their other facilities to explore using social media in their online communication and development work. How interesting.
So, this intern will get to see that group of people … facililty administrators and program staff from a wide variety of Easter Seals facilities from all over the United States.
Now, if we take that a bit further … hmmm? Those facilities might well wind up looking for people to - I don’t know - hire to implement this strategy? Who better to be in the lead for those jobs than … well, I don’t know, an intern that comes from the program that is doing it already?
Just thought that was interesting. :grin:Â There is yet another upside to the internship.
