Camp ASCCA is a Family Affair

Here at Camp ASCCA, we’re more than just a team, we’re a family. And for two of our incredible staff members, that’s literally true! This summer, we’re thrilled to have Pearl and Rebecca, a mother-daughter duo, serving our campers in two very important roles.

This summer marks Pearl’s fourth year at Camp ASCCA, and her growth here has been incredible to witness. She began as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), progressed to a Senior CIT (SCIT), then became a counselor, and now thrives as part of our Demo Farm program staff. Pearl spends her days teaching campers all about our furry, feathered, and four-legged friends. Whether she’s introducing them to goats, chickens, or the Camp cow, Pearl’s passion for animals and education shines through in every interaction. Campers leave her sessions not only with new knowledge but also with big smiles! Pearl loves the behind-the-scenes aspect of her role, explaining that it allows her to interact with far more campers in a single day than she could as a counselor.

But this summer holds extra meaning for Pearl because for the first time, her mom, Rebecca, is on staff too. “Getting to have her around has been really fun,” Pearl says. “Her personality brings a lot to Camp.” Rebecca plays a vital role in keeping our campers healthy and happy as one of our trusted med passers. With care and precision, she ensures that every camper who needs medication receives it safely and on time.

Rebecca first learned about Camp ASCCA four years ago and immediately encouraged Pearl to get involved. Now, after years of hearing her daughter’s stories, she’s experiencing the magic for herself as a med passer and she’s already hooked. “I don’t want to leave!” Rebecca laughs. “It’s just great, it’s a big family. The instant you walk in you’re just home.”

Though their roles are different, both Pearl and Rebecca share the same mission: making camp a safe, fun, and memorable experience for everyone. For them, working at Camp ASCCA is a chance to give back, grow together, and create something special.
