Camp ASCCA has done so much over the past 50 years. It’s a place where everyone belongs, memories are made, and love is shared every day. For some, that love isn’t always platonic. Camp ASCCA has a way of bringing people together, whether for a week or a lifetime. In our limited series, “Love, the ASCCA Way,” we’ll be sharing love stories that began at Camp ASCCA and continued long beyond our gates.
At Camp ASCCA, connections often form in the simplest of moments, ones that feel small at the time but grow into something life-changing. What begins as a weekend experience can turn into a story that lasts a lifetime. That was exactly the case for Brittany.

While studying Recreational Therapy at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, Brittany had the opportunity to work a weekend at the Adventure Skills Workshop, hosted by The Shepherd Center at Camp ASCCA. One of the stations she shadowed was the adaptive water ski area. Walking down to the dock, she met a man whose warmth immediately stood out. They exchanged only a few words, but for the rest of the weekend, she couldn’t stop thinking about him. Interestingly, they didn’t speak again during the event. On the last night, at the ice cream social, she enlisted a friend’s help to discover his name–David.
Afterward, she was able to connect with him on Facebook, and they began chatting. About three months later, they went on their first date. By chance, she had secured an internship near where he lived, which allowed their connection to grow naturally. They dated for three years before he proposed at Camp ASCCA, at the very spot where they had first met.
Their life together has been full of love and joy. They are approaching eight years of marriage and are proud parents of two young sons who bring immeasurable happiness. Camp ASCCA holds a special place in their hearts, as it is the beginning of their love story.
