Friends of ASCCA: Chad Shares What to Expect at Camp ASCCA

Hey everyone! If you are attending Rookie Weekend at Camp ASCCA, I want to share some of the things I have learned over the years of attending. My first summer was in 1988, when I was still in elementary school at E.R. Dickson.

All meals are eaten in the Dining Hall. Jon Dollar, the Kitchen Supervisor, always makes accommodations for campers and staff who may have dietary restrictions.

Hygiene is extremely important and does not stop when you arrive at Camp ASCCA. It is a top priority. Your counselor or unit leader will make sure teeth are brushed twice a day, and program staff will also assist campers in the shower.

Before program rotations begin, everyone will meet in the gym and stand under their group number until a program staff member comes to get them. When traveling to and from programs, it is very important to stay on the marked paths. Safety is extremely important at camp. Once you arrive at an activity, program staff will review safety procedures and discuss any equipment needed for the activity, such as a life jacket for tubing or harnesses and a helmet for the zip line.

Cell phones are not allowed at camp. However, if family or friends would like to send letters, they can email them to campermail@campascca.org. The camper’s name and session must be included in the email.

Camp ASCCA summer t-shirts for 2026 will be available soon. In honor of Camp ASCCA’s 50th anniversary, Camp will host its 50th celebration on August 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to spread the word to previous summer staff members.
