Dances are often the highlight of a week at Camp, and this week’s formal was a definite hit! Almost every week, DJ Codiak (Outdoor Education Director Cody) plays popular hits for about an hour and a half while everyone dances with their best friends and sings at the top of their lungs. During this year’s Session 6, we set a special night aside for a formal dance similar to a formal many young adults attend in college. Many of our campers this week are between the ages of 19 and 35, so it was a perfect crowd for a night like this.
Before the dance could begin, campers and staff spent a couple hours preparing for the night by taking showers earlier in the afternoon and putting on their fanciest outfits. The female cabins were even visited by friends from Raw & Rebellious who helped campers do their hair and makeup to make the night that much more special. They were even given special pieces of jewelry from R&R to wear all night long. We would also like to thank Mrs. Helen Harber and Mrs. Shellia Harris for helping with decorations and party snacks that made the evening extra special!
Once everyone was dressed and ready to go, all cabins headed to the dining hall for a special meal. The kitchen staff prepared a delicious plate made up of chicken cordon bleu, green beans, rice pilaf, and a roll. Dinner was followed by our weekly awards that are presented to the most excited participants at each program, the best program staff of the week, the best counselor of the week, the best campers of the week, and the cabin that showed the most spirit all week long. You can see more about this week’s award recipients here.
After dinner, campers and counselors were directed to the porch so that the program staff could prepare the dance floor and the PR staff could get the photobooth ready. Once the floor was cleaned, staff lined up to welcome in the campers for a night to remember. DJ Codiak played a variety of songs to suit everyone’s taste and could not forget a few slow songs for campers to enjoy with their dates.
However, the dance floor was not the only popular location as the photobooth had visitors throughout the night. While Thursday night is the last night of every session, the Thursday of Session 6 is also the last night of the summer for many of our staff as they head back to college, so everyone was making sure to get in those last-minute pictures before the summer ends. There were smiles. There were tears. Tonight’s formal was a night of endless dance moves, heartfelt hugs, and unforgettable memories! To all of our friends here for Session 6, thank you for an incredible week!
