As this year’s orientation week comes to a close, I can honestly say that the summer staff is ready for just about anything. Yesterday was a very eventful day that was filled with some surprises, but the day ended on a good note thanks to our musical guests, Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks. As this week comes to an end, we are realizing that only two days separate us and the first week of Camp ASCCA. The summer staff is ready to meet the campers of Session One and to spend their best week of summer with them.
Yesterday started out just like any other with some delicious breakfast and then getting straight into training. We wrapped up our training sessions, and it was time to put all the information that we have learned to work. Around one o’clock yesterday, this summer’s Day Camp started with some visitors from Randolph County, Montgomery TRC, and EFEA. Yesterday was a blast, but out of nowhere, a huge storm came to visit us here at Camp. Our full-time staff quickly shut down our programs, and we all headed inside where the summer staff lead everyone in a sing along to some fun camp songs and a great game of bingo. We even created posters for last night’s concert.
The storm finally stopped, and it was time for what we all have been waiting for. Last night was a special night as we had tacos catered in by Alexander City’s very own Taco Bar, and it was time for our musical guest, Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks to perform. The original plan was for the band to play outside on our new stage, but unfortunately due to weather they had to move the show inside of our dining hall. If yesterday taught us one thing it was to always be on our toes because you never know what is going to happen here at Camp. Rain or shine, Camp ASCCA is always a safe and exciting place to be for all individuals. As this week’s orientation comes to an end, there is only one thing that comes to everyone’s mind, and that is “Hurry up, Sunday!”
