As you know, this week we had a special group come in for this final Camp ASCCA session of the summer. We have absolutely loved having Alabama Head Injury Foundation (AHIF) here so much, we want to share more information about this awesome group of people and what they do.
AHIF was founded to give support to those with brain or spinal cord injuries and their families. However, they do much more than provide a forum to talk about brain injuries. They have a slew of services that they provide including recreation, respite care, research materials, a neurobehavior clinic, a camp program (that’s us!), and much more.
Though I’m sure all of these services are spectacular, we can only attest to the camp program here at Camp ASCCA. The way that this program works is that the person with the head injury brings a buddy with them to camp and, in a nutshell, have a ball! Just like our ASCCA campers, AHIF campers participate in things like zipline, waterslide, fishing, horseback riding and more. For many, this serves as an opportunity to build independence, get outside, and form friendships with others affected by a head injury.
