A Marvel-ous Monday for Sports Camp!

Session 3 has a new theme every day of the week, and today’s is Marvel. Some campers and staff chose DC characters to give them some appreciation and support too. Everyone in Sports Camp was wearing an outfit themed for their favorite superhero like Captain America, Wonder Woman, and Spiderman. The girls kicked it up a notch with face paint. For photos of today’s outfits from Sports Camp as well as teen week, check our Flickr or wait for the compilation post at the end of the week highlighting our best outfits of each day!

Sports Camp’s Monday started off with skeet shooting and fishing after breakfast. We headed out to the pond and began fishing while Cody and Victoria set up shooting. ASCCA’s Outdoor Education Program Specialist Cody Graham is directing Sports Camp’s activities this week with the help of our Sports and Games Director Victoria Dean.

The campers and counselors baited their hooks with worms and began casting after Fishing Director Justin Ward gave them the safety speech about making sure no one is around you when you cast and to drink plenty of water.

Once skeet shooting began, one camper at a time went to shoot the flying discs. They wore protective eye gear as well as headphones or earplugs to block the noise. Cody helped them aim or hold the gun if they wanted while Victoria pulled the targets. We had plenty of discs hit, and everyone improved their skills.

In the afternoon after lunch and good rest, Sports Camp headed to zip tower. Just like the zipline, the tower is worked by our trained adventure program staff, Ashley, Beau, Jared, and Owen. Victoria and Cody joined to help, as well as Victoria, Cody, and Unit Leader Blake McCoy. Blake follows Sports Camp too since he is the unit leader of Davis Lodge, where Sports Camp lives for the week.

After dinner, everyone went to the gym to play basketball and volleyball. Some campers and staff hung out, talked, and joked, and others stayed up and running across the court the whole time. Sports Camp ended the day with putting their hands in together and breaking with a yell of “smelly feet!”
