The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed in 1990. On July 26th it will be celebrating thirty years. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The law is to make sure that those with disabilities have the same opportunities and rights as others. There are so many people to thank who had a hand in passing this law. Over 56 million people in the United States have a disability, and the ADA plays a huge role in empowering those with disabilities. Of course, there have been changes in the law since it was passed to ensure that people are always protected.
Happy 30th Anniversary!
