Alabama Elks Association held its annual “Stoke & Smoke” Cookoff

The Alabama Elks Association held its annual “Stoke & Smoke” Cookoff this past Saturday, September 17, 2011 and the Auburn-Opelika Lodge #1834.

Eleven teams signed up this year to vie for the overall winner complete with a cast-iron pig trophy and a new grill! The team competed in four meat categories.

Teams included the Auburn-Opelika Lodge “Hog Wallowers”, “Grumpy Grillers”, “Road Kill Grillers”, Anniston Lodge “Hibachi Heroes”, Pell City Lodge “Hog Wash”, Decatur Lodge “B-B-Q Rookies”, Cullman Lodge “Master Basters”, Alexander City Lodge “Road Kill Cafe”, Roebuck Lodge “Hilltop Cookers”, Bessemer Lodge “Rowdy Rednecks #2”, and Cahaba Valley Lodge “Over-the-Grill Team”.

Special thanks to the judges Tom & Diane Spradley, Stan Crockett, Ron McKendree, and Mike Oatts.

One of the event coordinators, Wil Lane, said that he expects the event to raise about $1,000 for Camp ASCCA.

The Alabama Elks generously support Camp ASCCA every year with their fundraising efforts and state foundation.
