Over the weekend, the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association brought individuals from around the state for a weekend of therapeutic recreation. Groups from cities like Hoover, Dothan, and others began arriving to check-in at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon, and campers immediately began reuniting with their friends that some have not seen since last year’s ARPA Camporee. Outdoor Education Director Cody Graham invited everyone in and presented them with a schedule showing a weekend full of events and that the dance was later that evening.
Once campers had found their dates to the dance, everyone headed to the dining hall for dinner and then danced the evening away to a few oldies and this year’s popular songs. Saturday morning, the weekend continued with activities at the fishing pond, zip line, waterslide, and much more. Like a day in the summer, the groups were given a schedule of program rotations that they would follow throughout the day with the help of a few ASCCA staff members.
On Saturday night, campers and staff from each city came back together for the final evening program of the weekend, the talent show. The annual ARPA talent show is one that people prepare for all year. It includes energetic performances to songs by Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, and much more.
Sunday morning arrived faster than anyone wanted to accept, but after a delicious breakfast, campers enjoyed their final program rotations left on the schedule and later loaded up on their buses and headed home. We always have the best time with the ARPA groups and look forward to seeing them again next year!
Throughout the year, we offer opportunities for weekend camps for any organizations interested, and it can be designed to fit your specific needs. If you would like to learn more about the weekend opportunities we offer, contact Camp Director Matt Rickman at matt@campascca.org!
