ARPA Fall Camporee 2018

On Friday afternoon, the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association Fall Camporee began as therapeutic recreation groups from around the state of Alabama traveled to Camp ASCCA for the weekend. Groups from Hoover, Dothan, Muscle Shoals, and Anniston arrived to check-in at 4:00 p.m., and campers immediately began reconnecting with friends and ASCCA staff that they had not seen since last year. Outdoor Education Director Cody Graham has been in charge of this weekend for several year, and campers were shouting his name as they stepped off the bus. He gave everyone their schedules and sent them on their way to get settled in the cabins.

ARPA Campers enjoy Talent Show of 2018

After dinner, everyone made the trek to the OutPost for the weekend’s talent show. The talent show is always a hit with our friends from ARPA because everyone has the chance to showcase their talent often through singing and dancing. One camper even performed her favorite cheer routine. At the end of the night, everyone headed back to the cabins to rest before a Saturday full of ASCCA programs like zipline, fishing, boat rides, and more.

Everyone had a great time during the day Saturday, but the most anticipated event came Saturday night at the Big Stage. A band from Austin, Texas, The Band of Heathens, was set to perform for a couple hours, and it was an incredible evening full of happiness and positive energy. The band even shared with us how great it was to be in an environment with so many genuine smiles and kindness. It is safe to say that no one had trouble falling asleep after such an exciting day!

After Sunday morning breakfast, campers headed out for a couple more program rotations, and then everyone was set to pack up and head home. However before they left, everyone had the chance to get their favorite Camp ASCCA t-shirt from 2018. We always have a great time with the ARPA groups and look forward to seeing them again next year!
