ASCCA Christmas 2017

On Friday afternoon, campers and staff arrived for a festive ASCCA Christmas weekend on the banks of Lake Martin at Camp ASCCA. The weekend was set out to be a cold one, and it was certainly that. Once all campers – returning and new – had checked in, everyone came together in the dining hall for dinner followed by a special Christmas activity in the gym. As everyone gathered together for the first event of the weekend, hot chocolate and treats were distributed to every cabin group.

Saturday morning began with a gravy and biscuit breakfast followed by free choice activities with Christmas themes. In the Arts & Crafts building, campers painted beautiful holiday canvases with their favorite Christmas image. Other campers visited the basement of Lions Lodge where ornaments were being designed on round pieces of wood. Many painted the faces of their favorite Christmas characters along with their own special designs.

Since the forecast showed no sign of a warm morning, campers and staff also took time to warm up at the campfire outside of Lions Lodge. Finally, campers had the opportunity to decorate Christmas cookies in the dining hall before meeting up with Santa Claus. Each cabin was designated their own time to visit Santa, and every camper was presented a special Camp ASCCA themed gift of an “Elvis Christmas” t-shirt and a special 2017 ornament.

After lunch, campers had the opportunity to warm up in their cabins for an early afternoon rest period before the annual Jingle Jump event took place. At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, campers and staff trekked to the swimming pool where individuals who helped raise more than $40,000 for the ASCCA Campership Fund jumped into the ASCCA pool to celebrate the funds raised despite the 39-degree water temperature. The campers celebrated each jump with loud cheers and even got a few laughs at the many crazy Christmas costumes that were worn.

At the end of the Jingle Jump, campers, staff, Jingle Jumpers, and volunteers made their way back to the dining hall for a special dinner. A dinner made up of hamburger steaks and gravy, green beans, and baked potatoes. Volunteers even brought more than 20 dessert options for everyone to enjoy. After dinner, campers, staff, and our visitors rocked the night away with the King of Rock and Roll himself at a special Christmas concert in the pavilion. Elvis made his way through the crowd singing some of his greatest hits and Christmas tunes. Campers and staff danced together and had the time of their lives enjoying an unforgettable evening.

After much needed sleep after a night of grooving to Elvis tunes, everyone enjoyed one last breakfast of the weekend on Sunday morning. Following breakfast, parents began to arrive for a special talent show where they would have the opportunity to see the many talents and abilities of the wonderful campers that attended ASCCA Christmas 2017. At the end of the talent show, campers checked out and headed home with their families for the remaining celebrations that come with the holiday season.
