ASCCApalooza!

The day we’ve all been waiting for finally arrived! Campers enjoyed music and fun at our first annual ASCCApalooza. This mini music festival was held at our new OutPost building with special performances by Nashville Bound, Charity Bowden, Jackson Capps, Sweet Tea Trio and more! Some of our campers don’t get to experience something like this outside of Camp, so we were more than happy to bring the experience to them.
We didn’t do regular activity rotations due to major preparation being made for the musical festival, but the fun never stopped. Campers started the big day with Free Choice Activities such as canoeing, horseback riding, fishing and more! After enjoying chicken caesar wraps for lunch, with a special visit from board members and Rotarians, everyone headed back to the cabins so they could rest up for the afternoon ahead.

While everyone was napping, set up was well underway! Sound and lights were being adjusted while performers were arriving and doing sound checks. Around 3 p.m., everyone headed to the OutPost in their impressively tie-dyed ASCCApalooza shirts and faces full of glitter. Before the real party began, campers refueled with goldfish and various beverages thanks to Coca-Cola! Campers made signs for the different artists to hold up during their performances and the artists absolutely loved it!

First to hit the stage were members of Birmingham based “creative artist development academy” Nashville Bound! Campers heard from talented young performers Gabrielle Metz, Will Haynes and Kailey Hobin. They all sang originals and even some covers from bands like Sugarland, Little Big Town and worship music artists and bands!

Campers also enjoyed the country twang and sass of Charity Bowden and Hollye Horton. Both ladies also performed originals and took requests from campers in the audience. After evening medicines were distributed, next to hit the stage was Jackson Capps. Jackson had everyone on their feet, dancing with their best buds to his upbeat musical selections!

Before gracing the stage with their musical talents, Sweet Tea Trio walked amongst the crowd and interacted with campers as they posed for pictures and sparked up conversations! They were the perfect ending to an eventful evening as they performed originals from their most recent EP and covers of songs from artists such as pop star Meghan Trainor. With the help of their friend Charity, members of Sweet Tea Trio worked the crowd even more. Campers were handed the mic and sang along to the tunes while one lucky camper got to jump on stage and strum the guitar a few times.

Our first annual ASCCApalooza was everything we hoped it’d be and more! Big thank yous to all the talented performers that helped us give our campers a night to remember, and sponsor Coca-Cola for the beverages that kept us hydrated throughout the evening. We can’t wait to see how this music festival evolves in the coming years. For more ASCCApalooza excitement, check out our pictures on Flickr. Don’t forget to keep up with more Session 3 fun on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and right here on our website!
