Auburn University Social Media Classes

On February 29th, I made my annual trek to Auburn University to visit with one of my favorite people, Robert French, and two of his Social Media classes. Robert, who began working as a counselor for Camp ASCCA in the early 1980’s and ultimately became the first Public Relations Director for camp, is now well known for his work with Social Media as an Instructor at Auburn University.

Each year I get the opportunity to visit Robert’s classes and speak with them about camp. Staff recruitment and particularly, summer PR staff recruitment, is one of our main objectives. However, within about twenty minutes, it inevitably turns into a disability awareness comic routine on how things used to be!

My first job ever was working for Robert as a PR assistant during the summers in the late 1980’s. We could easily write a book just about those summers. The students enjoy hearing about those days and you can certainly tell the positive changes that have taken place for people with disabilities in our stories.

I am available to speak for any club or group interested in Camp ASCCA and my presentations can be tailored to your specific needs. For more information, please email: allison@campascca.org
