Autism Society’s “Camp F.R.O.G.”

This past weekend the Autism Society of Alabama hosted “Camp F.R.O.G.” at Easter Seals Camp ASCCA. The groups of families enjoyed the zip-line, swimming in the pool, the waterslide, nature programs, canoeing, miniature golf, water playground, fishing, and climbing the cargo net. The nighttime activities were awesome and included a campfire with s’mores one night and a talent show the next! To see hundreds of photos from the weekend, click here!

The mission of the Autism Society of Alabama is to improve services for persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families through education and advocacy.
Their principle beliefs are that:
  • Every individual has inherent worth and dignity
  • Inclusion in the community is preferred over exclusion
  • Options and opportunities should be available for every person
  • Services should focus on the family and the individuals
  • Accessible, individualized, comprehensive services should be available
  • Services should strive to be a model of excellence and incorporate validated innovations
  • Consumers should expect and receive effective advocacy and leadership
  • Consumers deserve to receive current information on diverse therapeutic options

And you may be wondering why “Camp F.R.O.G.?” Well according to the Society’s website, F.R.O.G. stands for For Research Outreach and Giving Support to the autism and asperger syndrome community. Jerry the FROG is the official mascot for ASA. Jerry travels the state bringing autism awareness and acceptance to schools, businesses, and local community fundraisers.

We always enjoy having the Autism Society of Alabama here at Camp ASCCA and hope to continue the relationship for many years to come!
