This weekend is Camp ASCCA’s annual Christmas weekend! We were so excited to welcome about 30 campers and 15 old summer staffers to camp yesterday and we’ve all being having so much fun. Last night, the campers were hard at work making Christmas crafts. They made paper reindeer and Santa hats, Popsicle snowmen, and other fun Christmas-themed crafts. After finishing their crafts, campers warmed up with cups of hot chocolate and cookies while waiting for our special guest- Santa. Campers loved having the chance to sit and chat with Santa, but loved his present to them even more: a special edition Camp ASCCA Christmas Weekend shirt! After all that excitement, campers and counselors alike turned in for the night with thoughts of our trip to Montgomery dancing through their heads.
This morning, we all loaded up the bus and took a trip to Montgomery for a day full of fun. Our first stop was the Eastdale Mall, where we ate lunch and gave the campers the opportunity to shop for holiday gifts for their families. Many campers found the perfect gift- both for others and for themselves. After we were all shopped out, we again got on the bus and headed over to the Montgomery Zoo. There, we saw giraffes, tigers, zebras, monkeys, and more. Some campers had favorite animals they were excited to see, while others just enjoyed looking at all of them. When the sun set, we all hopped aboard the zoo’s train for a tour highlighting the zoo’s Christmas lights. Campers really enjoyed seeing the animal-shaped lights and the general Christmas themed lights, and especially appreciated the fact that it wasn’t too cold outside to enjoy them. When the light show was over, we all headed to the local Montgomery Golden Corral and sat down for dinner together. With such a wide array of food (especially desserts) everyone left brimming with great food.
We had such a great day in Montgomery and were sad to see it go, but we’re excited for what tomorrow holds in store and for the rest of the time we get to spend together. For pictures from this weekend, make sure to check in on Flickr!
