My grandson, Caleb, just returned from a week at Camp ASCCA. If you don’t know about Camp ASCCA is a camp for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. This was his first time to be away from home overnight. He is 7 years old, was born prematurely, has cerebral palsy and is totally dependent on a caregiver for everything. He is WONDERFUL! In his own way, he lets you know his opinion. We were a bit apprehensive about him going some place he had never been before with people he didn’t now and that didn’t know him.
I cannot begin to express my elation when we found out we could see what he did everyday from the pictures that were posted. The one with his counselor, Logan holding him made me cry. It seemed you could see the commitment and care on Logan’s face. Caleb probably got to do things he never would have if he had not gone to camp. I am so amazed at the attitude and commitment of everyone at Camp ASCCA, it is obvious that they are there for the special people that attend. My thanks go to all the people that made this such a great experience for Caleb and for Easter Seals and the United Way for making it possible. I encourage everyone who can to contribute to make this possible for special kids and adults.
