2019 Camp ASCCA Camper of the Year

With the end of summer comes the time for the ASCCA Summer Staff to come together and select the year’s Camp ASCCA Camper of the Year. Every year, the staff nominates ten campers that they believe set the tone for the summer. The nominees are often selected based on the characteristics that make them unique and how their summer experience was that year.

Camp ASCCA’s Public Service Appreciation Day

On Oct. 2, the Camp ASCCA staff invited local law enforcement, fire department, and EMS officials to Camp to enjoy a lunch and a detailed tour. The goal of the visit was to help our local leaders become more familiar with Camp, our facility and the opportunities we offer people with disabilities.

Friends of ASCCA: Windsor’s First Summer at ASCCA

I attended Camp ASCCA the first time in July 2018. When my parents told me about Camp ASCCA and the people who work there, it made me jump with joy to find out I was going. I admit, I was also unsure if I could handle every little thing they do because my parents wouldn’t be there with me the entire time. This would be the first time I would be away from home and without any family member with me, so I also wondered if I would be homesick.

Septembers at ASCCA

The end of summer is always a hard goodbye, but that does not mean that programs stop running at Camp ASCCA. Every year after Labor Day Weekend, the ASCCA full-time staff and additional program staff members begin the month by running activities for day-long visits from sixth grade students at Drake Middle School in Auburn. The school’s entire sixth grade class is split into groups that visit Camp over five days.

Macon ARC 2019

On Monday, Aug. 19, friends from the Macon ARC traveled to Camp ASCCA for a week of sunshine and summer fun. The ARC has been coming to ASCCA for many years following the end of our ASCCA sessions. Most of the participants have grown up together and are the best of friends, so it makes for a really exciting week. We started the week of right with a dance party ran by none other than DJ Cody, and that is just the start of all the fun.

Friends of ASCCA: Get to know Windsor!

Hi, my name is Windsor Joye! I was born with epilepsy due to a malformation of the left side of my brain. When I was 11 years old, I had surgery to get rid of seizures forever, and it was successful. I have not had any seizures ever since the brain surgery on August 10, 2010! However, immediately after the surgery, I was completely paralyzed on my left side, and intense therapy began.
