We have had a busy month of September, and as we approach the end, we have one more fun event planned as October arrives. On Thursday, a group from the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, will travel to Camp ASCCA for a weekend of water activities, zipline, yoga, and more.
This weekend a group of local Campfire Girls visited Camp ASCCA for a Saturday of fun. Upon arrival, the girls were welcomed by ASCCA staff and spent a few minutes greeting each other and checking out the schedule for the day.
Today is the first day of fall, and the Junior Leadership Lake Martin group knew just how to celebrate. This morning, high school students from around the county traveled to camp for a day of group elements to learn more about each other and the importance of teamwork as they continue through the Junior Leadership program.

“We don’t get to do things like this very often,” was a statement I heard from parents throughout the weekend as families visited with the Autism Society of Alabama for Camp Frog. Each year, families from around the state travel to Camp ASCCA to spend a weekend that is designed specifically for their children.
Throughout the year, the Camp ASCCA name is shared by news outlets interested in telling our story, and we want to make sure that you have the opportunity to enjoy each entry.
For the final day of the Drake Middle School field trips, students arrived this morning even more energized and enthusiastic for the adventures ahead. We could not have asked for better weather to welcome all the students, teachers, and parents to camp. Today’s group rotations were similar to the rotations that other groups have faced as our ASCCA staff helped students experience the zipline, waterslide, canoeing, and more.
The first week of September was a huge success with groups from Drake Middle School and the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association visiting camp for a few days of fun in the sun before the fall weather arrives.
Coming up this week at ASCCA:
On Friday, groups from around the state of Alabama arrived for the ARPA Fall Camporee weekend. Every year, different parks and recreation teams bring their therapeutic recreation groups to Camp ASCCA for a fun weekend in the woods. This year we were visited by groups from Montgomery, Dothan, Muscle Shoals, Anniston, and Hoover.
It has been a hot, beautiful day here on the banks of Lake Martin, and today’s students from Drake Middle School had a ball. With the sun beating down, students were encouraged to drink water throughout the day and keep sunscreen on because no one wants to be sunburnt on their fun day away from the classroom.
This morning several buses loaded down with middle school students arrived for an exciting day at Camp ASCCA. Each summer, Drake Middle School in Auburn spends a few days in September sending groups of students to camp for an enjoyable day trip away from school.
Located in Alabama on Lake Martin, Camp ASCCA offers campers a wide variety of traditional recreational and educational activities with a unique design for accessibility.
