Staff and campers come from many different areas of the United States. However, Camp ASCCA welcomed international counselors to Camp this summer! Charlie Hope, came from Newcastle, England at just 24 years old. Charlie found out about Camp ASCCA through Camp America and was immediately impressed by the beauty of Camp ASCCA. Charlie worked as a support for a special needs art workshop and drama group in England. It is clear Charlie cares for people as he wanted to have more experience with different surroundings.
“The biggest difference between the United States and England is the heat and humidity” says Charlie. “There is much more noise from wildlife at night and everyone is so polite. Hearing “sir” and “ma’am” was something to get used to.” Charlie loves nature which really made Camp ASCCA intriguing to him.
“The best part of Camp ASCCA is without a doubt the people, campers, and staff.” Charlie expresses the different personalities of campers and counselors has already taught him so much about life in America. All his friends here have brought him good company for being so far away from home. Charlie wishes he was better at camp songs. He says he is working hard to catch up so he can sing with campers and staff.
After the summer, Charlie plans on traveling to more states with camp friends, hike some mountains, and stay in New York for his final week in America. “I’m going to miss the U.S. so much!”
