Camp ASCCA’s annual Rookie Weekend kicked off on April 26. Rookie Weekend is catered to first-time campers and their families. While at ASCCA, families learned about the place so many people call home and all the opportunities that are offered here. We brought in experienced staff to help put these families’ nerves at ease, offer assistance, and answer any specific questions.
The schedule for this weekend was designed so that campers and their families could experience all the popular ASCCA programming, and parents could see how our activities are ran. They could find comfort in the safety that our staff provides each camper and how they manage the activities.
We started our weekend with staff members giving tours around Camp to help get familiar and an introduction from our Camp Director and Program Director to help alleviate any pre-weekend jitters. We kicked off Friday night with a dance for our campers! Our campers and staff showed out with their very best moves. Once everyone was all danced out, we moved things outside to have a campfire and s’mores.
Saturday morning, campers and their families got the full camp experience, and we started our day just like any other with flag raising before breakfast! We wanted our campers to have an opportunity to participate in all of the favorite ASCCA programs. The activities included things like zipline, canoeing, boat rides, fishing, paintball slingshots, and hanging out in the gym/game room.
Saturday afternoon, after a delicious lunch and a much-needed rest period, we started up the activities again. They had plenty of choices to choose from including, tubing, bungee trampoline, the waterslide, archery, swimming at the pool, shaved ice at the OutPost, and friendship bracelet making. We ended the day with an ASCCA favorite, a talent show!
Sunday morning, before departing ways, campers and their siblings got a chance to play and hang out with our staff at the BcK4T while the parents had a Q & A session with members of our full-time staff.
We love welcoming new campers and families to Camp ASCCA and sharing our world with them. Rookie Weekend 2024 was a memorable time. We hope to see everyone again soon!
