Camp ASCCA welcomes Alex Dumais to the Full-time staff

As the Outdoor Education Director, Alex is primarily responsible for the Demo Farm, Horseback Riding, Nature, Fishing, and Shooting Sports programs. His favorite part of the job is witnessing our participants and volunteers break through barriers and overcome their perceived limits through our programming. The smiles from simply petting a donkey or riding a horse for the very first time are the moments that make this job so special. It’s all about the campers.

Alex was born and raised in Birmingham, AL where he attended John Carroll Catholic High School. He graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation. Therefore he is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist as well as a Level 1 Certified Disability Sport Specialist after completing his winter internship with the Adaptive Sports Center in Crested Butte, CO. His passion for service began early on through Boy Scouts of America, where he eventually achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, all thanks to the love and patience of his parents. Alex’s grandfather, CW Copeland, was a paraplegic for more than 30 years of his life and his shared experiences with him are what paved the enlightened path for his education. His passion for service quickly transformed into a passion to serve people of all abilities. “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” – Dr. Seuss

In his spare time, Alex loves to go backpacking in the great outdoors or work with his hands while tinkering in the woodshed with carpentry projects.
