“I’m dreaming tonight of a place I love… I’ll be home for Christmas.” Home has many different definitions for different people. However, everyone can agree that Camp ASCCA is a home away from home for many. December 13-15th we had many campers, families, and staff come “home” for Christmas with our annual Christmas weekend.
We kicked off the fun Friday afternoon. It didn’t take long until our campgrounds were filled with eager faces, suitcases overflowing, Christmas sweaters, and joyous energy. Once everyone arrived, settled in the cabins, and reunited with their friends we headed to the dining hall for dinner.
Friday night excitement was radiating through everyone. It was nice to be back with our old friends and have the opportunity to make new ones. No one does Christmas quite like Camp ASCCA. Our schedule for the weekend was jam-packed with different activities to foster the Christmas spirit. We started with Christmas Minute to Win it games and ended with a campfire!
Saturday is when the weekend fun picked up. After breakfast, everyone gathered in the pavilion for an over-the-top Christmas carnival. The carnival had everything you could imagine. A life-sized snow globe, games, Christmas crafts, and a guest appearance from The Grinch! Most importantly, we were surprised by a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus! Campers had the opportunity to share their Christmas wishlist with Mr. and Mrs. Claus and pose for numerous pictures that will be cherished.
Saturday afternoon, our 10th annual Jingle Jump was held! After lunch, everyone gathered at the ASCCA pool to watch and cheer on our participants as they braved the icy waters. We had 35 teams/participants and raised $73,000 with the number still growing! One by one our participants lined up and took the plunge into the freezing water. We even had two campers who fundraised make the jump. All of the proceeds from this event go toward our Campership Fund which provides financial assistance to campers every summer! Once everyone had a chance to warm up and take a much-needed rest period we began with free-choice activities. Activities included the bungee trampoline, Christmas cookie decorating, paintball slingshots, and free play at our newly renovated pickleball courts.
That evening after a delicious dinner prepared by our kitchen staff we changed into our matching “Hollier Jollier” T-shirts and made our way to the BcK4T! This weekend we got to welcome back John Hollier to Camp ASCCA. Hollier, performed during our ASCCA Concert Series this summer. We were thrilled to welcome him back to share in our Christmas celebration and spread the magic of the holiday season. He puts on an incredible performance. It was such a treat!
Sunday morning, we soaked in every minute we had with each other. An ASCCA weekend would not have been complete without a fan favorite, the talent show! We heard a plethora of music ranging anywhere from classic Christmas carols to country to Taylor Swift. We believe that some of the most talented can be found right here on Lake Martin.
Not many things are perfect, yet an ASCCA Christmas is pretty close to perfection. This was a magical weekend filled with unbreakable bonds, love, and everlasting memories. This was the best way to close out the 2024 Camp ASCCA season. Until next time, friends.
