On Oct. 2, the Camp ASCCA staff invited local law enforcement, fire department, and EMS officials to Camp to enjoy a lunch and a detailed tour. The goal of the visit was to help our local leaders become more familiar with Camp, our facility and the opportunities we offer people with disabilities. The ASCCA full-time staff split up and led smaller groups of first responders around Camp, so that they could answer any question that was presented.
Approximately 35 public service officials visited today from Alexander City PD, Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Dadeville PD, Alexander City FD & EMS, Alexander City Housing Authority, the narcotics task force and SWAT. Camp Director Matt Rickman and Program Director Amber Cotney each had the opportunity to speak to the entire group after showing one of our popular Camp videos. Everyone enjoyed a lunch made up of hamburgers, conecuh sausage, baked beans, potato salad, and brownies.
In the future, the Camp ASCCA staff will meet with some of the officials to discuss the overall safety of Camp as well as building plans. Several departments plan to visit next summer to meet campers and see ASCCA in action. We cannot wait to see them again soon!
