Carrying the Torch

Session 4

Not only was today filled with our regularly scheduled exciting activities, but we also concluded the day with our very own ASCCA Olympic Games. The day started with beautiful weather and our usual rotation activities—tubing, zip line, nature, arts & crafts, swimming, sports & games, water slide, archery and demo farm. After lunch we opened up free choice activities and we concluded the day with ASCCA Olympics.

After supper the Olympic Games began. Our program staff put on a great set of games for the campers to participate in. Each cabin represented a country and rotated through the various activities to compete against program staff for points. The games included: soccer, discus, volley ball, figure skating, fencing, putt-putt, and archery.

At soccer the goal was for the cabin to score as many times as they could against the goalie. At discus campers had the opportunity to test out their hand at Frisbee and try to land the Frisbee in a target drawn on the ground with chalk. Volley ball was an altered game of “keep up” with a ball and all members of the cabin participating. At figure skating each cabin was given a song chosen by the staff at the activity and given a few minutes to plan a routine that included each member in the cabin. Fencing took place on the playground with pool noodles and a lot of fancy foot work. Putt-putt was traditional golf played on our fully accessible putt-putt course. Archery was also just that—archery. Each cabin was allowed two members to compete for the bull’s eye in archery.

All in all, it was a great night with some fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork. Out of all ten cabins Creek Cabin was the reigning champion. Congratulations to all of our campers for a job well done! Remember to check our Flickr for pictures!
