Coming home for Christmas can mean different things to different people. Camp ASCCA is a place many call home, and an ASCCA Christmas is nothing shy of extraordinary. Campers, families, staff, and visitors experienced Christmas at Camp ASCCA December 15-17.
Friday, December 15th, the campground started to fill with people, luggage, excitement, and high spirits. Upon arrival, everyone got checked in, acquainted with their counselors, and settled into their cabins. We headed to the dining hall for dinner before kicking off the weekend fun.
Friday night, we welcomed the Red Clay Strays back to Camp ASCCA for one final show of the 2023 ASCCA Concert Series. The Strays have played at Camp for many years, and we love having them here. Our campers, staff, families, and visitors sang and danced the night away. A night spent with the Red Clay Strays is hard to beat.
Saturday is when the fun really picked up. After breakfast everyone went to the gym for a one-of-a-kind Christmas carnival. The carnival was complete with games, a life size snow globe, visits from a snowman, reindeer, the Grinch, and a surprise visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Our annual Jingle Jump fundraiser was Saturday afternoon after lunch. Everyone gathered at the Camp ASCCA pool to watch our brave participants plunge in the freezing pool. We had 60 fundraisers/teams participate this year, and we raised $45,000, and the number is still growing! Our participants jumped into the cold pool with the help of the crowd cheering them on. Saturday afternoon, campers got to choose between different free-choice activities. They could decorate Christmas cookies, get creative at arts & crafts, shoot slingshots, or practice for the talent show. That night, we hung around the dining hall playing Christmas themed bingo and had a campfire going complete with s’mores!
Sunday, before parting ways, we had a talent show. During the show, there were many different acts. They ranged from singing and dancing to full skits. We heard a lot of classic Christmas tunes, country music, dancing, and even a skit!
Christmas at Camp ASCCA is always a memorable time, and this weekend was one to remember. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to end our 2023 season at Camp ASCCA. Until next time, ASCCA friends.
