Today we had the 5th grade student body from Dadeville Elementary School at our Water Quality Day Camp. Students arrived at 8:30 and spent the day exploring different aspects of water quality that are important to everyday life in Alabama. Students participated in four different activities throughout the day that provided a hands-on look at water and the environment.
At the boat dock students tested the water in a few different activities. The water was tested for temperature, clarity and even pH levels. Students also took a short hike to visit a stream where they explored some of the wildlife in the water. Students discovered new bugs and fish, as well as craw dads which were a huge favorite! At another activity students were given the opportunity to create a watershed from materials they found in the woods. After constructing what students thought would be successful watersheds students’ simulated rain to test their projects. And finally, at the Dunn center students explored the indoors and out while learning about Alabama nature. That session concluded with a fun game of Jeopardy where the students were able to test the knowledge they had learned throughout the day.
