The Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults (ASCCA) is holding its annual Valentine’s dinner and dance on Saturday, Feb. 11.
Camp ASCCA director of marketing and communications Dana Rickman said that the event is a major fundraiser for the camp.
“It benefits our campership fund, which is used for those who cannot afford the full fee for our summer camp,” Rickman said. “Over 90 percent of our campers need assistance paying the full or partial camp fee, which costs $695.”
Rickman said they are hoping for record attendance this year, as a change in the traditional venue for the dance will allow for more guests.
“For the last 16 years we have held this event at our Dadeville Campus, which was destroyed in the tornado last year,” Rickman said. “In the past, we were limited to only 350 people, but this year we are going to hold the event at the Event Center in Downtown Opelika, which will 500 guests.”
Tickets for the event for two people cost $100, but Rickman said they are also looking for more of the bigger sponsors, which will be recognized at the event either in the program or during the program depending on the level of sponsorship.
Citizens can become carnation sponsors for a donation of $200, which includes two seats and recognition in the event program. A rose sponsor is designated by a $1,000 donation and carries with it recognition on the program and during the event; orchid sponsors will be recognized during the event, on the program and will be identified as leadership level donors and requires a $2,000 donation; lily event sponsorship requires a $5,000 donation and these individuals will be recognized on the event program, during the event and as leadership level donors and lily event sponsors. Rose, orchid and lily sponsors will receive seating for 10 people (one table).
The event includes a meal catered by Outback Steakhouse and will feature the music of GLOW the Show Band.
“This is the third year that GLOW, a band from Atlanta, will be returning,” Rickman said. “Our guests have really enjoyed them and we just wanted to keep the momentum with the whole event.”
The event is put on with the help of the Friends of Camp ASCCA, a group made up of over 30 individuals from around the Lake Martin area.
“This event is the number one thing they do,” Rickman said.
Attire is coat and tie, and Rickman hopes to have all guests registered by the end of the month.
