Last night, campers were treated to an “End of the Summer” concert featuring rising, country star Riley Green! A true southern gentleman and as humble as they come, Green is from Jacksonville, Alabama. His love for music began as a young boy, when he’d spend a lot of time at his granddaddy Buford’s music hall. As he grew older, he began to perform in front of various crowds, and has since released three EP’s. His most recent EP, entitled “County Line,” reached the 14th spot on iTunes Country chart!
Prior to his arrival, campers and counselors spent some time decorating posters to hold up during the concert. The posters were such a hit when we made them for ASCCApalooza, so we figured why not? It was a great way to get the campers involved, but also showed our appreciation to our guests! A lot of the posters included quotes from some of Riley’s original songs and others were cabin specific sayings such as, “Cherokee loves Riley Green!” He loved them!
It was one huge night of fun as campers enjoyed shaved ice and nachos, while listening to Riley sing original songs like “Bury Me In Dixie” and a few covers such as “Strawberry Wine.” Of course it wouldn’t be a true ASCCA function without a dance party breaking out. Campers and counselors sang and danced along to Riley’s country tunes all night long. A few of our male staff were even lucky enough to join Riley on stage as he performed one of his most popular hits, “Bury Me in Dixie.”
As the night came to a close, Riley joined in with campers as they sang the Goodnight song and even stayed behind for pictures. It was the perfect ending to a great evening and we’re so thankful to Riley for taking time out to come perform for our campers! This continues to be such a memorable week and we hate it’s coming to an end so soon.
