Etowah County Schools’ Elementary Teacher of the Year

Great recognition for Carrie Beth Handley, Etowah County Schools’ Elementary Teacher of the Year. Here’s a portion of the full article in The Gadsden Times.

…”While at Auburn, she had the opportunity to do volunteer work at the Alabama Special Camp for Children and Adults.

She said it was there that she realized that everyone learns in different ways.

“Working with children with communication delays and autism in the Speech and Hearing Clinic at Auburn was a wonderful introductory experience to my field, but working at Camp ASCCA showed me the true diversity of individuals with special needs,” she said.

“Each one is unique. They may share common characteristics, but they all have different experiences, different abilities, different interests, different motivators and different learning styles. I believe all children can learn, but we all learn at a different pace and some may just need to take a different route. ”…

Congrats Ms. Handley!
