On Monday, campers enjoyed their first full day back at ASCCA. Thankfully the rain stayed away, giving them the chance to enjoy the outside by participating in different activities: tubing, zipline, demo farm and pool.
Splitting into groups, campers were led to the tubing rotation where they put on life jackets and took a roll-over test. With all safety tasks complete, it was time for the fun to begin.
With the opportunity to come along and capture the moments, I saw many emotions on campers’ faces: joy, excitement, etc. What was the greatest you might ask? It was fearlessness. They got in the tube and were driven around the lake for a ride. Some held their hands high in celebration. Others cheered with excitement. They applauded each others accomplishments when they made it back to shore. Not many times did any of the campers let their nerves become greater than their happiness.
As we move on to another day at this wonderful place, campers, counselors and other staff will strive to let joy outweigh other emotions. This will help us to remember our goal: to serve those who can achieve maximum benefit from the resident camp experience and provide a healthier, happier, longer and more productive life for campers.
