Fourth of July celebrations began bright and early as campers and counselors showed up in their finest patriotic attire at flag raising. Morning rotations continued as usual, but the real celebration began at dinner!
Everyone’s bellies were filled with good food prepared by our awesome kitchen staff, and for dessert we had two-layer sheet cakes! These cakes were prepared with love by the wife of our Food Services Director Enis Higgs. They resembled the appearance of the American flag and were topped with fresh blueberries and strawberries. To give you an idea of how delicious it was, several people couldn’t eat just one slice. Thank you Mrs. Higgs, we appreciate you!
After Camp Director Matt Rickman read a few love notes, counselors helped campers do face paint and temporary tattoos of fireworks and American flags. Speaking of fireworks, we ended the night with our very own Fireworks Show and watermelon at the Amphitheater. Songs like “Proud to be an American” and “Party in the USA” played in the background as members of the maintenance staff lit up the night. Campers eyes were filled with wonder and awe and their cheers could be heard a mile away.
Though there’s plenty of other ways we could celebrate this day, there’s nothing quite like the Camp ASCCA way! Stay tuned for more Session 1 excitement on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and right here on our website.
