Hey everyone, we are getting close to the final month before the summer sessions start! The farm animals will be arriving from Frogeye Farm pretty soon, and I’m going to tell you about the kids from yesterday and today in honor of the Session 3 theme, Decades.
In the 1980s, almost everyone had an Atari and a Nintendo Entertainment System in the living room. We had to take turns playing video games like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, Duck Hunt, Pac-Mac, Frogger, etc. and there was a time limit because the family would need to use the TV. There was also a layered striped toothpaste called Aquafresh in every bathroom sink. It had aqua blue and white stripes for fluoride and fresh breath, then the red stripe was added in 1982, designed to clean teeth and remove stained film for healthy gums. To answer the phone, you would hear the bell ring before lifting the receiver. Phones had rotary dialing and touch-tone dialing. Plus, people had boom boxes with cassette players and AM/FM radios.
Your family would take you clothes and shoe shopping at department stores like Sears, Kmart, Zayre, McRae’s, Holmes, Parisian, Gayfers, Montgomery Ward, TG&Y, etc. You would also be asked to try on clothes in the fitting room.
Today’s kids now have Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation, phones, smartwatches, tablets, smart TVs, and Meta glasses. However, in schools, devices must be put up for the entire school day.
With summer just around the corner, make sure you have your Medical Authorization Forms signed by your doctor, uploaded, and completed ASAP. You cannot get checked in without one. Program staff will be coming in on May 26 for training!
