Hey counselors and friends!
I’m disappointed about not being able to complete Session 3 due to lightning strike that caused fire and water damage to the dining hall. Hopefully I’ll be back at either Fall or Christmas Weekend!
Unfortunately, we were stuck in the cabin until 6:30 before being called into the Lion’s Lodge for dinner, that Sunday while staff and emergency personnel got everything under control. The lightning struck we were in the middle of check-in on June 29th.
Matt made the announcement that we are sorry, but we would not be able to have campers for Session 3, and that parents were on the way to pick everyone up that night or Monday morning. Everybody, including me, was upset and disappointed. Though our time was cut short, what time we did have together was fun, we ended our night with a talent show.
Sunday evening plans were supposed to be camper/counselor pictures, then dinner, followed by evening free choice. I would have chosen karaoke at that time because I just wanted to listen to the music.

Monday was supposed to include Demo Farm with Pearl and Arts and Crafts with Abby. For Monday afternoon free choice, I would have chosen Pickleball and Arts and Crafts. That evening, a pool party would have taken place for my cabin.
Tuesday was supposed to have Zipline with Logan, Ashlyn, and Natalie, and Tubing with Scarlett. The free choice I would have chosen for that afternoon would have been a pizza-making class from Little Italy Pizzeria in Auburn. That evening, my cabin would have attended the talent show.
Wednesday would have started with breakfast at the Patio, followed by Nature with Chris and the BcK4T. The free choice activities I would have chosen would have been the LPR Zipline. That night would be followed by the ASCCA Concert Series, featuring Carver Commodore.
Thursday morning would have had more free choice activities, and I would have chosen the Big Swing. Later in the evening would have been awards and Honor Cabin. Then we would have danced at the Lion’s Lodge and watched fireworks—but instead, I watched A Capitol Fourth on PBS (Alabama Public Television) www.aptv.org.
When ASCCA resumed for the rest of the summer, meals were eaten at in the basement Lion’s Lodge and were cooked by Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief Mass Feeding team.
Let’s hope the dining hall is ready in time for Fall Family Weekend!
