Hey counselors and friends! At check-in this summer, we got to the gate, and Chris was there to check everyone’s temperature. After you got the all-clear you pulled into the parking lot and were greeted by Kendall, Bri, and Grayson. They collected your luggage and then it was off to the pavilion. You walk by the ASCCA Shop, where you can stop and buy things from Elise. The photo booth was right next to it and Sara Kellye was there to take your picture. Once you entered the gym you saw Emily for name tags, followed by Kayanna for emergency contacts. Jon Dollar was there to get special diets and food allergies. After that, you waited for your turn to see the nurse. If you have medications, you then go to the Dining Hall where Grace is. You drop off your blister-packed mediations to Maddie, Caroline, Logan, or Carson. After that is done, you head to the cabin!
Being around people and socializing is what I like to do! I enjoy checking in with my friends daily through Facebook and Instagram. I have some camp friends and counselors that I talk to from all over the state and its surrounding areas. It helps because I don’t get to see them too often. It’s nice to know that I have people that “get it.” They understand and will accept me for who I am regardless of if I have a disability. Making friends, true friends, hasn’t been the easiest for me, but having the camp friends that I do makes my life much brighter and happier.
Every camp friend and counselor I’ve met means a lot to me. They listen and accept me. They’re there when I need a shoulder to cry, lean on, laugh, or talk with. They always listen to everything I have to say.
