Hello! My name is Gatlin McPherson, I’m a new guest blogger for Camp ASCCA. I have severe cerebral palsy, I use a power wheelchair to get around, and utilize a device called Tobii to communicate with.
I have visited Camp ASCCA nine times, and have made great memories each time. I remember the first time I attended camp. Camp Director Matt Rickman was trying to communicate with me, but at that time, I only had a communication board taped to my wheelchair tray. Matt spent 30 minutes figuring out what activities I wanted to do during my time at Camp. From that moment, I realized how committed Matt and his staff are to ensuring campers have the opportunity to experience the activities that they enjoy throughout their stay at Camp ASCCA.

Never did I imagine I would be able to ride a zipline until I came to Camp ASCCA. I always enjoyed getting in the pool; the water helps my muscles to relax after sitting in the wheelchair for so long. I also enjoyed ziplining over the pond on the LPR, it made me feel like I was in an Indiana Jones movie.
The first time I came back to Camp ASCCA with my Tobii, I typed on it, “This is home,” referring to Camp ASCCA. When I looked over, I noticed a tear rolling down Leah’s cheek. I’m so excited to share my experiences from my time at Camp ASCCA with the readers. I hope to attend Camp ASCCA again in the future and make more memories.
I’m excited about being a guest blogger for Camp ASCCA; I will utilize the skills I learned while earning my bachelor’s degree in public relations. I aspire to become a professional digital marketing specialist. I hope to develop and execute effective social media marketing campaigns for businesses.
