Friends of ASCCA: Windsor Shares Dress-Up Ideas for Each Session

Camp ASCCA makes our summer sessions extra fun with the colorful themes that they kindly set up for us campers. Wonder what outfits to pack for your session’s theme? That’s part of the fun. I get many compliments on my themed clothing every year. All of this summer’s themes are fun and easy, especially if you consider my suggestions.

In Session 1, the theme is Star Wars. If you are going this week, you have many options with beloved characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO. However, if you prefer other common characters like Darth Vader or Yoda or more recent characters like Rey or Finn, go for it. You can even wear a Star Wars t-shirt or hat to match the theme.

Session 2 is a tacky tourist theme. Think about going to the beach on the weekend. You can wear a Hawaiian shirt with socks and sandals or tank tops and shorts with flip-flops. Beachwear is your best friend for this theme. Other ideas, such as beach dresses and sundresses, would be cute for this theme. Songs from both the Beach Boys and Jack Johnson are great choices for a karaoke activity or the talent show in your session.

The theme for Session 3 is a very fun one, and that is decades theme. This theme is one of my favorites. If you have a favorite decade in mind, dress up as it, or plan to wear a different decade each day. My favorite decade is the ‘90s because it is the easiest to dress up for. I normally get my 1990s inspirations from Rachel in the show Friends.

For decades like the 1940s and 1950s, dress modest with a knee-length A-line dress with polka dots. Complete the look with a boat neckline or O neckline. You could even wear a long skirt with a normal shirt. On the other hand, if you choose the 1960s and 1970s, then go with flashy and wavy patterns.

If you do the 1980s, I can tell you now: Have fun with what you find in that decade. The ‘80s are the definition of “go big or go home” for both outfits and hairstyles. Also interesting to imitate is the 2000s decade. Think of all the popular boy bands, like the Jonas Brothers, who were everywhere in the 2000s. Also, let’s not forget t-shirts with movie poster designs and characters from popular movies at the time, such as Harry Potter and Twilight.

Session 4 is interesting because it has a theme for each day of the week. The first one is favorite color day, which is probably one of the easiest to dress up for. The next day is tie-dye day, another good one. Tie-dye clothing can be found in almost any thrift store, or you could be creative and make one at home to take to camp. For Spirit Day, wear a Camp ASCCA shirt or hat. The week ends with a fun twist by having a pajama day before you leave. Wear your favorite pajamas!

Session 5 is going to be super, pun intended. The theme for this session is superheroes. You have so many options to choose from. Think of your favorite Marvel or DC characters and dress up as them. If I were going to this session, I would wear a Spider-Man shirt or dress up as Starfire from DC.

The theme for Session 6 is ASCCA Masquerade. From costumes to beautiful long dresses and classy suits for the guys, this theme is one of the most unique themes from Camp ASCCA. Masks are optional to bring with you from home, but chances are you will make your own at camp. This theme is often very colorful and reminiscent of Mardi Gras with all of the green, purple, and gold.

For the western theme in Session 7, you could go as a cowboy or cowgirl at your own ranch or dress up as a sheriff in a small town. During karaoke or the talent show, do a western dance or sing a country song. Blake Shelton, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton are the best choices for country songs.

I do hope my list helps you and your camper with dress-up ideas. I can tell by the themes that Camp ASCCA has amazing activities and fun in store for campers at each session. I know the camp staff work just as hard on the theme ideas as they do with the campers. I cannot wait to see what they have planned for my session this summer. I have my outfits for my session already, and I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your session.
