Gone Fishin’ 2015

Camp ASCCA’s annual Fun Fish Weekend was another great success in 2015! Twenty-seven campers (four females and 23 males) enjoyed lots of fishing fun at Camp ASCCA March 20-22, 2015.

A combination of 10 Camp ASCCA full-time staff members and counselors as well as six volunteers helped host the campers with their personal care and made sure they had a great time fishing the entire weekend. The volunteers were fraternity men from the Pi Kappa Phi, Auburn University chapter.

Additionally and very importantly to the weekend, 10 boaters came for the weekend to take the campers and the counselors out on Lake Martin! Most of the men and women have been volunteering their time for this weekend for many years. The boaters and campers caught crappie, bass and catfish.

According to full-time staff member Lyle Coutts who was in charge of the weekend, everything was great overall. The group enjoyed a campfire and s’mores Friday night, had a beautiful day of fishing Saturday, and danced in the dining hall after dinner. Sunday morning fishing was rained out, but the campers did enjoy the awards ceremony!

Awards for 2015:

Most Fish Caught:
1st place: Wayne Lee with 63 fish
2nd place: C.J. McGuire with 59 fish
3rd place: Mark Carlo with 38 fish

All campers were able to go through the prize table and pick out a few items each.

The weekend was sponsored by Alabama Central District Civitan International and they also sponsored the t-shirts! Thank you Civitans!

Coca-Cola Bottling Company UNITED donated products to the event. Academy Sports and Outdoors, Kinnucan’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, YETI Coolers and Cold Steel Plastics (Gary Everett) all donated products/gift cards as well.
