On Tuesday, May 23rd, campers and volunteers arrived for the week’s Hall Foundation Camp. Each year, the Hall Foundation helps support a group of individuals with special needs to attend Camp ASCCA for a week. This year, the campers have been introduced to new activities like shaved ice at the OutPost and the new Panning for Gold program. The campers and volunteers have traveled from parts of Florida and Alabama to experience a week they will never forget.
So far, the groups have had the opportunity to play at the splash pad, fly at the zip line, and reel in a few good catches at the fishing pond. The ASCCA staff has also spent time encouraging the campers to stay hydrated even though we have had a few cooler, atypical days of May. Despite the occasional rain shower, the campers are moving in high gear to each activity, ready for the adventures ahead.
This afternoon, everyone will head back out to one more program rotation, and then free choice activities will commence. Today’s free choice activities are scheduled at Panning for Gold, putt putt, pool, and the Oscar C. Dunn Rotary Environmental Center. The pool has been a hot topic since the campers arrived, and last night, the pool party was rained out. With yesterday’s schedule change, we expect the pool to be a popular item at free choice. The volunteering students from the University of North Alabama are also spending time with each group, having fun and making memories as they learn more about recreation for special populations.
Also, tonight we will have a talent show for all of the campers and volunteers to enjoy, so stay tuned for pictures of the performances. You can keep up with the talent show and all of the other adventures this week by following us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr!
