At the start of the summer, we are joined by groups who use our facilities for week-long sessions of fun and adventure. This week, we were joined by the Hope Heals Camp. This particular week of camp was known for several years as Rooftop Friends Alabama Family Retreat, but this will be the second year of Hope Heals Camp. According to hopehealscamp.org, the mission of the camp is to create “a week-long experience in Alabama for individuals and families with disabilities that marks the beginning of a lasting community grown from the disabilities in us all.”
The week is named after Katherine and Jay Wolf’s full-time Christian ministry, Hope Heals, where they leverage their story to encourage others. At the beginning of the week, campers and families were partnered with Compassionate Companions, called “CCs” for short. The CCs are trained to serve and encourage the campers during activities throughout the week while parents experience different opportunities rest and relaxation across the campus. The hope of this week is that campers and their families have the opportunity to experience new activities together and build new relationships with families from across the country.
We always look forward to the Hope Heals Camp and cannot wait to see all of our friends again next year. You can check out a few moments from the week on our Flickr page here, and you can also visit the Hope Heals Camp website to learn more.
