“How to Save a Life!”

It’s a beautiful third day of Program Staff training here at Camp ASCCA, and staff members started the day off with CPR training. The course follows the AHA (Amercian Heart Association) curriculum and is taught by Director of Health Services, Nurse Abbey Love Murray, R.N.

For some of our Program staff, this was their first interaction with Nurse Abbey. After brief introductions from her and new members of the Camp ASCCA family, everyone gathered around to watch a series of videos covering various CPR scenarios and procedures. For clarity, Nurse Abbey stopped in between videos to answer questions and further explain certain techniques.

Program staff were then able to put their knowledge to the test! Using each other, they practiced things like proper hand placement, gestures and adequate places to find a pulse. Mannequins were also used as they acted out CPR required scenarios, perfecting chest compression rhythms and breathing techniques when administering CPR.

Nurse Abbey also covered real-life situations that could happen at Camp. She gave helpful tips and provided various ways in which staff members should handle those situations, while stressing the importance of remaining calm.

Lifeguards received their CPR certification last week during lifeguard training, so the members being certified today varied between our Farm and Adventure Programs’ staff. Our campers’ safety is top priority, and it’s important to us that someone is CPR certified at every activity.

We have a lot of first-time campers this summer and we want to ensure they have the ultimate Camp ASCCA experience! Keep up with our 2017 Program Staff and their training this week on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and right here on our website!
