Seal the deal to tee off and score at the 13th annual Easter Seals Hole-A-Ween Golf Classic. It will be held on Oct. 28 at Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington. Tee-off will be at 10 a.m.
Easter Seals is a nonprofit, community-based health organization that serves both children and adults who live with disabilities, so that they can achieve independence through a variety of programs and services. The organization also offers support coordination services for children, adults and seniors with special needs; and provides early intervention services, scoliosis screening, post-polio support and a mental health program.
“Easter Seals is committed to making it possible for all people to live, learn, work and play in our community,” said Dawn Huber, who is the director of Southern Operations. “The Easter Seals Covington office alone serves over 1,100 families in the five Florida Parishes.”
Proceeds from the golf tournament will go to the Specific Assistance Fund, which aids families in acquiring durable medical equipment denied by their insurance, wheelchair ramps and batteries, and camp scholarships.
Easter Seals Ambassador Joley Toney of Covington will attend the tournament to greet golfers and thank them for their support. The 23-year-old has cerebral palsy and depends on a wheelchair. She has received services from Easter Seals for more than 10 years and has been living independently for the past two years.
“Joley motivates me and so many others to focus on what we can achieve, rather than what we can’t,” said Katie Rodrigue, Toney’s support coordinator.
Ambassadors Katie Brewster of Mandeville and Mark Heine of Kenner also will attend the Hole-A-Ween Golf Classic. All three have participated in Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults, a specialized camp for people of all ages with disabilities, which is sponsored by Easter Seals.
Both men and women golfers will enjoy reflexology on the course by massage therapists, and be energized by food and beverages served at every hole, such as red beans, hamburgers, fried chicken, pasta, jambalaya and chicken biscuits as well as beer, soda and more. The ambassadors will hand out goody bags with treats of candy to the golfers as they come off the course.
A new car will be waiting for the lucky golfer who shoots a hole-in-one on one of the par-three holes. Other prizes for on-course contests include a vacation for two at a selected Fairmont facility, a Callaway driver and a set of woods, jewelry, restaurant gift certificates, fleur-de-lis and Saints prints and more.
The cost to participate in the Easter Seals Hole-A-Ween Golf Classic is $750 per foursome. Individual players can register depending on space availability and should call Michelle Anderson, event coordinator, at 892.7604, to do so.
