Each day this week, I will be focusing on one individual from our program staff that is a part of our Camp ASCCA farm staff. Today, I will tell you a little about Brandon Kelly.
Brandon is from Birmingham, Alabama, and this summer is his fourth summer working at Camp ASCCA. In Brandon’s three prior summers of working at Camp, he has been a CIT, which is a counselor in training, then he became a counselor, which he did for two summers. This summer Brandon is a part of our farm staff, where he is in charge of shooting sports, such as riflery, skeet shooting, and archery. When I asked Brandon why he wanted to do shooting sports, he responded, “My dad is in the military so I grew up around guns. When I saw the position open for shooting sports I wanted to apply because I think it is important to teach campers the safe and proper way to handle a firearm”.
Brandon will also be running our sports and games program. Brandon grew up playing sports his entire life. Fun fact about Brandon is that in high school his soccer team was National Champions. Brandon enjoys sports and games, but his favorite part about it is that he has a good understanding of them. He enjoys teaching the kids about his experiences playing sports and the proper way to play them. Brandon has a lot of great memories from working at Camp ASCCA, but when asked about his favorite memory, he said, “Last summer I made a connection with a camper that not only made his summer but has impacted my life more than any other situation.” People like Brandon and their dedication to making Camp ASCCA the best week of a camper’s life is what makes Camp ASCCA such a special place.
