Another familiar face to the ASCCA family and first timer on our Aquatics Program Staff, is Lifeguard Brett Gray. Brett is from Montevallo, Alabama and this is his fifth summer with us. He originally started off as a volunteer during MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) week. Then, he came back as a counselor and eventually moved on to be a part of the Adventure Program Staff.
Depending on what activity he has to run for the day, Brett will usually wake up around 6-6:30 a.m. If he’s at the pool for the day, his morning set up usually includes general maintenance of the pool. Other activities usually involve setting out life jackets and making sure all equipment is working properly.
There’s something magical about our Tubing activity, because everyone on the Aquatics Staff loves it! “It’s a lot of fun being out on the water and actually doing the activity with the camper, rather than just kind of watching from afar,” Brett said.
With the different Aquatics activities, Brett hopes the campers get to experience things they don’t normally get to do. Whether it’s their first time on an inner tube or getting on the waterslide. “Even if it’s getting out of their chair for the first time in a few months and getting in the water to get that therapeutic experience,” he said.
All of our Aquatics activities are designed to be accessible for every camper’s enjoyment and we look forward to seeing which becomes a crowd favorite, this summer!
Keep up with Brett and the rest of our Aquatics Program Staff on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, and right here on our website!
