Welcome back Lance! Lance is on his fourth summer with Camp ASCCA, once as a CIT, twice as a SCIT and now he is a part of the program staff (farm). One of the greatest things about Lance is that he is only eighteen years old with this huge heart for the campers. When I asked Lance why he made the big change from being a counselor to farm staff he said, “I really wanted to do something different from being a counselor. I am a local of Dadeville, and I feel I have a better understanding of the environment around the community than many other people on staff.”
I asked Lance what was one of his most fondest memories from Camp and he said, “My second summer I was paired with a boy named KC, and he had never been canoeing before. We eventually went during free choice, and we just sat out on the water for a couple hours just talking about life.” Lance will be starting in the Fall at Southern Union Community College and then will transfer to the illustrious Auburn University after two years to study Civil Engineering. A fun fact about Lance is that when he goes to the airport he has to get double checked at every check point because of his last name which is Chayka. Lance loves getting involved with the campers and being able to experience all of their firsts and to see them smile.
