Hello, my name is April Garrett. I am part of the PR staff for this summer. I am from Brundidge, Alabama, and I am a senior at Troy University. I am majoring in English and minoring in Graphic Design. I hope to go into publishing or advertisement after I graduate. Normally I would be spending my summer with my family at Lake Eufaula, but I am glad to be spending it here at camp on Lake Martin.
This is my first year working at Camp ASCCA, and I learned about the camp from coming to RYLA for the past four years. RYLA is a Rotary Youth Leadership weekend camp for highschool students held at Camp ASCCA. I attended the camp my senior year of highschool, and I have returned the last three years as a college group leader. Rotary has worked for many years eradicating polio. The clubs send students to RYLA in hopes they will use the leadership skills they learn to help their community and help Rotary end polio. Volunteering at RYLA motivated me to apply to work for Camp ASCCA, and I am very glad I did.
This is my first summer camp experience and my first time working with people with disabilities. I am super excited to be at camp during the summer sessions while campers are here. I look forward to all the activities I will get to photograph and write about during the summer.
We will be posting all types of media during the summer on Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter.
