Hi my name is Sara Shea, this is my first summer here at Camp ASCCA and I am excited to be part of the summer PR staff.
I am currently a senior at Mississippi State University
HAIL STATE and will graduate in May with a degree in Public Relations. In 2012 I received a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant and I am glad to say God lead me to do more than just help people physically with their disabilities. Spring 2014 I chose to return to school to pursue a degree in Public Relations so that I could work with non-profit special needs foundations, such as Camp ASCCA.
I am very active with the Special Olympics of Mississippi, serving as their Mississippi State Student Coordinator. While working with them this past year, I got to help with the first ever Unified Egg Bowl, a flag-football game played against rival schools Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Students from each school and Special Olympic athletes from each area played as Equals to bring home the victory for their team. It was an amazing experience to see my friends and classmates witness what they thought was the impossible. They had no idea a guy with one arm could sack a quarterback 9 times in one game. Moments like these inspire me to continue on my career path. I want to open the eyes of society so that they no longer just see a “disability” and are able to see the amazing abilities they have.
I am honored to be able to share with you how Camp ASCCA changes the lives of those who choose to join our camp family. Camp ASCCA not only changes the lives of our campers, but it also changes our lives as staff members. Throughout this summer I hope that I can open your eyes to our world here at Camp ASCCA and you are able to see how amazing this place truly is.
