Program staff interns work at camp to plan, organize and lead programs while earning college credit

Our program staff interns work at camp to plan, organize and lead programs while earning college credit.

Joel Langley is a first time staff member acting as program staff for sports and games. Joel is from Tallassee and is a senior at the University of South Alabama. In his free time, Joel is very active and loves to cycle. He is currently studying exercise science for pre-physical therapy. Joel heard about camp from previous staff and through Pi Kappa Phi’s philanthropy “The Ability Experience” which is dedicated to serving those with disabilities. Our own Alex Dumais helped establish the program staff internship between Camp ASCCA and the University of South Alabama, his alma mater. At camp Joel hopes to meet new people and share exciting experiences with them. “I look forward to doing my part to make an impact on Camp ASCCA,” he says. His favorite thing at camp is seeing our campers smiling as they glide down the zipline.

Samantha Peckham is a first time staff member acting as a “floating” program staff, experiencing each of the different activities. Samantha is from Mobile and attends the University of South Alabama there. She is a senior studying therapeutic recreation and hopes to work full-time in a camp setting once she gets her degree. She also heard about Camp ASCCA through her classmates and always wanted to come, but because of her summer schedule she hadn’t been able to. This year, Camp ASCCA was an available internship for her degree, so it was it worked out that she is able to spend the summer with us. Samantha looks forward to meeting new people and learning new things at camp. Her favorite thing at camp is any activity that makes the campers face light up. She says, “if a camper is enjoying the activity, I’m enjoying it too!”

Our interns are doing an awesome job and getting the hands-on experience they need to succeed with their degree! Thanks interns!
